Why Old & Young?

Increasing number of homealone elderly and ineffective use of PRH; non-elderly one-person applicants reached 117 500 in 2018, with average waiting time of 5.5 years with a grading system not in favor of young applicants. We aim to accomodate more young professionals (have completed ‘post secondary-degree’ studies within the past three years and whose salaries have not increased significantly during the period) while allow social interactions for homealone elderly.

Is it a must to join the Buddy System in order to live in The Sixth Generation?

Except for the family applicants who can choose to participate or not, all residents must participate in the buddy system.

How can I apply for The Sixth Generation?

1. Check the eligibility list (same as the the existing criteria as of Housing Authority)

2. Fill the application form together with a personal statement showing motivation, social services experience and personality and submit to the Priority Scheme Joint Office.

3. A vetting interview will be required.

Will The Sixth Generation still work if there is deviation from the government’s prediction on population change?

The Sixth Generation adopts a highly flexible approach in determining the flat mix. The proportion of the three flat models for new development/ redevelopment can be adjusted from time to time.

How is The Sixth Generation Priority Scheme different from other existing priority schemes e.g. Single Elderly Persons Priority Scheme?

There is special arrangement for one-person elderly applicants to be allocated a flat within 2.9 years. For other eligible applicants, the average waiting time would be 4.5 years.

Can I switch my buddy?

The Priority scheme joint office will be in charge of the management and administration of the buddy system. Normally the residents cannot switch their partners unless with valid reason approved by the Joing Office on a case by case basis. For the participants who drop out from the Buddy system, the Joint office will arrange reallocation process for their buddies remaining in the system.
