Executive Summary for the Peer Assessment

The objectives of peer assessment have been set to act as a motivator in encouraging working environment among peers, and assess group mates on contribution to meetings, commitment to a common goal, skill input and reliable completion of tasks. Among all other tools, ITP Metrics has been chosen as the platform as it provides a more direct questioning format with results given, and questions closer to the objectives desired. Based on previous research, the assessments are performed at the beginning of the project for several times. The result of peer assessment can be summarised as follows.

Even workload and scores among all group mates

An average distribution of work and effort has been spread among all group mates. All group mates show a similar score in all 3 peer assessments. It may be the fact that the peer assessment is not performing its full functionality on encouraging works and preventing shirking. However, it is generally felt among all group mates that the division of labour was fair and satisfactory time and work done were shown from everyone, due to the fact that most of the group members were studio group mates in year 3 and everyone understood well the positioning, strengths and weaknesses of group mates.

The effectiveness of peer assessment

The effectiveness of peer assessment, when compared with the one we are used to, the traditional post-submission peer assessment set by the department, was much better as it is agreed that the peer assessment provides an incentive for us to work harder. It is also agreed
that peer assessment is not necessary for that later stage of the project as every group mate has been familiarized on the time that have to be spent every week, and effort to be made. Further assessment would only contribute to a waste of time on the project timeline.

Lack of comparison with other peer assessment methods

The limitation of the peer assessment result is that there are no other online peer assessment platforms for comparison, due to the fact that the other platforms are not free, or with other scales, such as those for a whole company or organisation. Self-developed peer assessment is not considered as it costs more time than allocated for the project, as well as the inexperience in setting up such questions and scoring/evaluation upon completion of the assessment.
